چکیده

Concern has been expressed about the increasing use of nebulised bronchodilators at home by patients with airflow obstruction.1 Both angina2 and supraventricular tachycardia3 have been reported in patients during such treatment in hospital, where nebulisation is usually achieved with oxygen. No data have been available, however, on the cardiac effects of bronchodilators delivered by air driven nebulisers in the home environment. We have therefore performed domiciliary 24 hour electrocardiographic (ECG) monitoring on all of our patients who use nebulisers in this way to assess any adverse effects on heart rhythm or the ST segments of the ECG.

An open, prospective comparison of beta 2 agonists given via nebuliser, Nebuhaler, or pressurised inhaler by ambulance crew as emergency treatment.

BACKGROUND The merits of the use of beta 2 agonists by ambulance crew and best methods of delivery have not been fully explored. METHODS A prospective comparison has been made of treatments applied in three districts in South Wales (200 micrograms salbutamol by pressurised inhaler, 5 mg salbutamol via nebuliser, and 5 mg terbutaline via Nebuhaler) by emergency ambulance personnel to acutely w...

Nebuliser performance, pharmacokinetics, airways and systemic effects of salbutamol given via a novel nebuliser delivery system ("Ventstream").

BACKGROUND Currently available nebulisers are inefficient and show variable aerosol deposition in the lung owing to the differences in the particle size generated. The aim of this study was to compare systemic absorption and bronchodilator effects of salbutamol given via a novel ("Ventstream") and a conventional ("Hudson Updraft II") nebuliser system, having initially evaluated the performance ...

Comparison of bronchodilator responses and deposition patterns of salbutamol inhaled from a pressurised metered dose inhaler, as a dry powder, and as a nebulised solution.

The lung dose and deposition patterns of drug delivered by dry powder inhaler are not known. The effects of inhaling 400 micrograms salbutamol delivered by dry powder inhaler (two 200 micrograms salbutamol Rotacaps), by pressurised metered dose inhaler, and by Acorn nebuliser were studied in nine subjects with chronic stable asthma. Technetium-99m labelled Teflon particles were mixed with micro...

Optimal dose of salbutamol respiratory solution: comparison of three doses with plasma levels.

Salbutamol solution is usually administered by nebuliser in a dose of 5 mg. Little evidence exists that this is the optimal dose for bronchodilatation or that this dose is without side-effects. Twelve patients with asthma were given increasing doses of salbutamol 1.5 mg, 3.0 mg, 7.5 mg, and placebo. Treatments were administered twice daily for four days in a double-blind manner. Measurements of...

Randomised crossover trial of salbutamol aerosol delivered by metered dose inhaler, jet nebuliser, and ultrasonic nebuliser in chronic lung disease.

AIMS To compare the efficacy of salbutamol delivered by metered dose inhaler (MDI), jet nebuliser, and ultrasonic nebuliser in ventilated infants with chronic lung disease. METHODS Twenty preterm ventilated infants with chronic lung disease were enrolled in two studies. In study 1 (n = 10), each infant was given 200 micrograms of salbutamol at 4 hour intervals and in random sequence from a me...
